Overview

SLP Abroad’s Belize semester is designed to create a meaningful impact on the local community while providing students with real-world learning opportunities.

Through partnerships with the Ministry of Education, Sacre Heart Junior College, local schools, and our nonprofit Tropic Care, students actively participate in initiatives that support communication development and therapy access across Belize.

Program Highlights

Service-Learning Projects: Students work directly in Belize’s only dedicated speech therapy clinic, staffed by full-time SLPs, providing therapy to children and adults in the community.

Community Engagement: Collaborate with local schools and clinics to design and implement therapy programs, support assessments, and conduct workshops for educators and families.

Cultural Exchange: Engage deeply with Belizean culture, learning local languages, customs, and healthcare practices.

Nonprofit Collaboration: Contribute to outreach programs through Tropic Care, focusing on underserved populations.

Benefits

Students build strong relationships with U.S. faculty and local clinicians, resulting in personalized letters of recommendation that are highly valued for graduate school applications.
